Workshops for Challenge Course Facilitators
Adventure Challenge in the Classroom: 1 - 2 days
Designed with teachers and social workers in mind,
AC in the Classroom is a primer in adventure challenge programming,
focusing on conducting low-prop and no prop initiatives in the classroom.
No previous experience required.
Level 1 Challenge Course Facilitator: 2 days
Participants will learn to prepare clients to make
the best use of adventure challenge programming and how best to follow
up on an experience at the course. Through extensive hands-on experience,
participants will learn basic facilitation skills including tone setting,
group management, debriefing, processing, risk management, activity
sequencing, group assessment, and high element technical skills. No
previous experience required.
Level 2 Challenge Course Facilitator: 3 days
Participants will come away with the technical and
group skills to begin conducting basic ground initiatives and low ropes
programs with student and adult groups. In addition to having the opportunity
to participate in a variety of activities as a participant, extensive
time will be spent breaking down activities and discussing the components
of effective programming and program design. Attention will be paid
to risk management, guidelines to 30 or more activities, framing and
tone setting, group assessment, activity sequencing, tailoring activities
to different outcomes, and leading inquiry. No previous experience required.
Level 3 Challenge Course Facilitator: 5 days
Extensive training in delivering high and low course
programming. Time will be spent examining risk management strategies,
covering program philosophy and adventure challenge history, facilitator
technique, and technical skills. Hands-on training will lead to a comprehensive
skill review. Designed for individuals who are interested in developing
their own challenge course programs, or who are interested in seeking
employment in the industry. Skill areas include: low ropes course, group
initiatives, adventure games, dynamic high ropes courses, static high
ropes courses, climbing structures, zip lines, and basic course construction
and management. No previous experience required.
Challenge Course Manager: 5 days
The role of a Challenge Course Manager is complex
and challenging. We will cover the technical, managerial, and administrative
skills necessary to handle day to day operations and to deliver high
quality programming. Training will cover the following topics: introduction
to industry-wide best practices, staff training and development, program
documentation, program marketing, risk management and liability issues,
and program design and development. Participants will walk away with
staff training and development materials, office management systems,
and program design strategies. Experience: At least one year experience
facilitating adventure challenge programs.
